Lower Saxony Way, X6

After a short visit to the Hiking Competence Center WALK and the ascent of the Hermann Monument with its fantastic views, we start our hike. Passing by the bird park in Heiligenkirchen with its exotic birds and small animals, we hike towards Wiggengrund and climb up to the Große Egge. The European Hiking Crossroads - where the European Hiking Trail E1 and the European Cycle Path R1 meet, but also the Externsteine are further highlights of our hike.
The path leads us to Burg Horn, built by the nobleman Bernhard V. zur Lippe in the 14th century, along the city wall to the peat bog "Stinkebrink," part of the history of the spa town Meinberg. Through the nature reserve at Norderteich, we reach the Spielberg near Reelkirchen and further to the Nessenberg. Initially along the Diestel, then towards Schieder and north of SchiederSee we hike to Glashütte, a district of the town Schieder-Schwalenberg. We climb up to the Herlingsburg, a cultural-historical archaeological site of a pre-Roman Iron Age hill settlement from the Late La Tène period. A tour of the area provides information on the history of the region, and during a break, we enjoy the views over Lipperland. Along the Eschenbach, we reach the town of Lügde, first mentioned in a document in 784 and known for the Easter Wheel Run. Through the Emmerauenpark and the historic city center, the path leads us below the Schildberg to Bad Pyrmont, the destination of our hike.
