source of the Leie

The Leie is a river that springs from Lisbourg (Northern France). The source is one of the most typical examples of a natural artesian spring.

In 1984, the Leie startled the inhabitants of Lisbourg. The river created a hole in the asphalt a few meters further from the original source and spouted upwards. Thus, the source of the river became a pond that flows under the road and emerges on the other side as a small brook, continuing into the plain.
