In the first half of the 17th century , Giuseppe Filangeri was appointed prince of Mirto. The current appearance of the palace broadly reflects the appearance desired by Prince Bernardo around 1793 .
The origins of the Filangeri family date back to the Norman period. Coming from Naples to escape from the Angevins, they became important because of the many fiefs, but also because of the important positions they held in both the civil and religious spheres.
Particularly interesting are: the Salvatore Rosa room , so named because of the presence of paintings by the Neapolitan artist; the make-up room with a Louis XV style toilet and the smoking room whose walls are made of embossed and painted leather; the Reception Room with pictorial decorations by Velasco and the Baldacchino room whose walls are completely embroidered in 'picturesque' style with scenes from 'Gerusalemme Liberata' and the ceiling with frescoes by Interguglielmi where the Glory of Bernardo Filangeri is celebrated.
In 1982, Maria Concetta Filangeri donated the palace to the region of Sicily and it became a museum.
