The church, together with the monastery , was built in 1344 by Matteo Sclafani on the site of the former palace of Matteo Termini, avenger of Sicily and uncle of Sclafani.
The church was completely renovated in 1678 , has a rectangular plan with side altars, a quadrangular sanctuary, on which rises a short dome, and a semicircular apse.
The elegant interior is decorated with marble cladding, mixed with stuccowork, interesting frescoes and the high altar is decorated with marble and semi-precious stones.
Of notable interest is the canvas that Olivio Sozzi painted in 1735 with the image “S. Chiara carries the sacrament in her hand" and the sacrament that Gaspare Serenario created with the "Crucifixion" . The triumphal arch preserves Antonio Grano's frescoes with the "Apotheosis of the Trinity". Hanging in the presbytery, between the festive and extensive sequence of marbles and figures, two large paintings, executed by Guglielmo Borremans with stories about St. Francis and St. Clare.
The complex contains a social center for the reception of non-EU workers .
