Treekerpunt

Just after the pyramid you will pass the sheepfold Treeker Wissel (near the intersection with the Doornseweg, next to the Pannekoekenrestaurant Bergzicht). Here is a herd of 250 Veluwe Heide sheep that can regularly be found on the Leusder Heide; the Treekerpunt is also located here.

Immediately afterwards you go on the heath itself, also part of the Den Treek-Henschoten estate. The heath consists of three parts, separated by traffic roads. Formerly a military training area in its entirety, the part east of the Doornseweg and north of the A28 is now freely accessible; The walk goes over the eastern part. Because of its past as a military training area, the Leusder Heide has retained its 19th-century character of the drifting landscape from before the reforestation: an open area, with extensive heathland and sand complexes, interspersed with deciduous and coniferous forest and special oak stubs.
