Bishop Hopmans consecrated the chapel on September 2, 1939. The statue of St. Willibrord was designed by Luc van Hoek from Goirle and made by Sjef van Gool from Baarle.
The chapel was used as a watch post during the war and was destroyed. In 1946, it was rebuilt by architects Jacobs and Muis and re-consecrated. In 1976, the chapel had to be rebuilt again after neglect under the architecture of J. Backx. The Willibrordus well is located beneath the floor. In 2000, the terracotta plaque with the coat of arms of Bishop Hopmans was able to be reinstalled.
The Stichting Kapel van Boshoven became the owner of the chapel in 2003; it turned out that the land it stood on still belonged to the adjacent forest plot!
