Monument to the Fighters of the Great War - Valença

Inside the fortress of Valença , on a slender granite column , the figure of the winged goddess of victory Nike raises a laurel wreath in honour of the fighters of the First World War.

This obelisk, erected in front of the Paiol de Marte , evokes the collective sacrifice of the men of Valença, killed or mutilated during this confrontation that had a painful impact on the community. But this was only the last war sacrifice that Valença had to suffer. This land, a fortified city, carries the blood of its ancestors in its veins, with a history that deserves to be known: that of Valença, the city made of courage.
