Capela da Crucificação (Chapel of the Crucifixion) - Bom Jesus - Braga

The Capela da Crucificação is the tenth and one of the most dramatic chapels in the Via Sacra of Bom Jesus.

It depicts the moment when Jesus is nailed to the cross and dies on Golgotha .

After his condemnation by Pontius Pilate, Jesus was taken to Golgotha (Calvary) . Jesus prayed, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." He died saying, "It is finished."

In the chapel you see Jesus on the cross , in the middle of the scene. The two criminals are crucified on either side of him. Mary, Mary Magdalene and John stand mourning by the cross. Roman soldiers are gambling for Jesus' clothes. There is a dramatic and emotional atmosphere , which emphasizes the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus.

This chapel is a highlight of the Via Sacra , as it shows the climax of Jesus' suffering and sacrifice .
