La Piedra de Doorn proviene de Escandinavia. Durante la penúltima glaciación, cuando un brazo de glaciar llegó hasta la mitad de los Países Bajos y dio forma a la Veluwe y la Cordillera de Utrecht, también llegaron piedras errantes. La mayoría de las piedras errantes excavadas se han reunido como monumento geológico en la Zanderij Maarn, pero una piedra ha escapado a la captura y ha sido colocada en un pedestal en los Bosques de Kaap.
