On the morning of February 16, 1832 Saint Peter and Paul Rocks rocks were visited by Charles Darwin. He found the seabirds so tame that they could be killed easily
Darwin felt that these rocks represented how life first took hold on a newly formed outcrop. Darwin noted that these islands were not volcanic, but formed by a tectonic uplift.
Another famous person to visit the rocks was Ernest Shackleton in his last expedition to Antarctica that occurred in 1921-1922.
