This hike uses the GR 5A and the Streek-GR Uilenspiegel.
What was once one of the busiest harbor areas in Europe thanks to the Zwingeul is now a beautiful hiking area. Dikes, canals, and rows of poplars traverse a wide polder landscape. From Damme to Oostkerke and Hoeke, you hike with the Damse Vaart as your companion on the dikes that once tamed the Zwin: the Omboutswervedijk and the Krinkeldijk. The return journey takes you over the Landsdijk, Sint-Pietersdijk, and Zuiddijk through the polder area. The rows of trees along the water
are the constant on this route: the vertical stripes in the landscape are visible from everywhere.
