Description

This easy circular tour takes you along the Elbe and through the extensive forest and lake area of the districts Plötzky, Pretzien, and Ranies. Along the way, there are opportunities to stop at restaurants and visit churches and other sights.

Starting at the rest area Elbbrücke Schönebeck-Grünewalde, follow the signs of the Elbe Cycle Path to Pretzien. Along the way, you will come across the following sights

• New construction Elbbrücke Schönebeck (Construction period 2011-2012)

Take a short break at one of the sandy Elbe groynes, enjoy the panorama and the passing ships.

• Stop at the district Ranies at the restaurant Zur Tanne (directly on the Elbe Cycle Path) and relax in the well-kept beer garden.

• Stay at the Pretziener Wehr. This is one of the largest board weir systems in Europe. The weir is located on a 162.8 m long, 7.50 m wide, and 3.80 m high foundation and has a usable flow width of 112.95 m. It has ten masonry support pillars with nine bay openings in between, each containing 36 board weirs (heavy sheet iron with a frame), each weighing around 100 kilograms. The weir is opened at a water level of 5.92 m at the measuring point Barby (Elbe) and thus protects the cities Schönebeck and Magdeburg. It was awarded a gold medal at the World Exhibition 1889 in Paris.

• Visit the St. Thomas Church in Pretzien, a station of the Romanesque Road.

Follow the Gommernsche Straße in Pretzien.

Turn left in the forest area towards Giselasee and follow the forest path to Kolumussee.

At the end of the path, turn left and follow the path to the main road B 246 a.

On the accompanying cycle path towards Gommern, continue until the Waldsee junction. Take a break at the campsite here and enjoy the offerings from gastronomy to wellness.

Follow the path to the first fork in the forest and turn left.

Follow the forest path until you reach the main road again. Here, turn left and follow the signs of the Elbe Cycle Path back to the starting point of the tour.

The route mainly leads over well-developed cycle paths and short forest path sections.

Directions

Coming from the motorway exit, always follow the B 246 a towards Gommern.
