Elbe-Katemin-Weg

The Elbe-Katemin trail leads you through the Elbe Heights with many small inclines, which, together with the Klötzie, form the northern edge of the Drawehn Heights and run into the Elbe Marshes to the north. Serving as the transition from the Lower Saxon Elbe Valley Biosphere Reserve to the Elbe Heights-Wendland Nature Park, this diverse landscape provides the backdrop for the trail. The Elbe-Katemin trail takes you along the Elbe to the historic center of Walmsburg, a former circular village. The Walmsburg Werder is a natural and extensive floodplain of the Elbe with direct transitions to the wooded Geest edge. In the designated recreational areas, you will find a place to enjoy the Elbe in its natural state, with its white beaches. Since 2009, the Werder has been protected by a dike that shields the town of Walmsburg from flooding. Another highlight along the route is the Schieringer Forest with its mighty megalithic tombs and the sacrificial mountain.
