Last updated: 11-Aug-2019: The economic road bypassing Lützkampen seems to be unpaved. This has been removed from the route. As a result, the distance has increased by 1 km.

The route begins at the church in Lommersweiler and runs clockwise. It primarily follows and crosses the river valleys of Irsen (Germany) and Our (in Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg). The climbs in this part of the Eifel/Ösling are somewhat steeper than elsewhere, and there are also three above-average steep climbs (the ascent to Sevenig, the Ourberg, and the climb between Bracht and Maspelt). The roads in this area are usually of good quality (except for the 100m stretch to cross the Our at Dornauelsmühle) and are generally quiet to very quiet in terms of traffic.

You descend first to Steinebrück and then cross the border into Germany; there is an ascent to Elcherath, and the descent takes you back to Belgium.
The route now follows the valley of the Our to Stoubach (where the route intersects with the outbound route for about 100 m on the return). You cross the Our and come back into Germany. Then you ascend the Alertzberg. After the ascent, there is no descent, but you remain on a plateau. Only at the village of Harspelt do you descend into the valley of the Irsen River, to the Harspeltermühle, and then descend from this river gorge. After a few kilometers, you descend back into the valley of the Irsen, and you climb back up to the hamlet of Haustrich.

Then it goes 8 km down to, surprisingly, the valley of the Irsen. The Irsen is followed downstream on this route, which means that the elevation differences along this valley continue to increase. This is evident in the subsequent climb to Sewendig. Unfortunately, the increasing elevation difference is compensated over a shorter distance: Yes, there follows a steep ascent (Auf der Fröhn) with gradients of up to 18% at the start.

After about 4 to 5 kilometers on the plateau, the beautiful descent (open view, some hairpin turns) into the valley of the Our River follows, which flows here at the border of Germany to Luxembourg. However, in the town of Stolzembourg, you quickly ascend from the Our Valley to the Luxembourg side, over a beautiful gem of an ascent, the Côte de Purpelescht. The route remains on the plateau in Luxembourg (partly via a cycle path to avoid the busier CR322) before descending into the Our valley via a narrow road.

The route now follows the Route Nationale 10 (N10) for 5.5 km. Fortunately, in contrast to what you might expect from the road signs, this is a not too heavily trafficked road. The road beautifully winds through the narrow valley of the Our. Suddenly, you have to turn sharply right to cross the Our into Germany. The road is 100 meters long and not in very good condition, and then you need to cross the bicycle/pedestrian ferry over the Our. There follows another gem of an ascent from the Dornauelsmühle to Preischeid. The Dornauelsmühle is also a nice place for a rest! After the ascent, the route initially stays on the plateau before descending back into the valley of the Our and then climbs away to the Luxembourg side to Heinerscheid. However, you do not cycle directly to the town of Heinerscheid but turn right onto an inner road before the summit, which leads you through a tributary of the Our (thus descending and then uphill). Finally, a descent over excellent road surface and steep (10%) into the valley of the Our awaits you.

The route passes the European Monument and dips back into Belgium. The route now follows the Our upstream for about 6 kilometers. Until Stoubach, you leave the valley and cycle over the very steep Ourberg to Weweler and Burg-Reuland. Now there is a climb to the village of Bracht, which becomes very steep as it continues to Maspelt, a descent, and a final climb to Lommersweiler.
