Buendía Reservoir

The Buendía reservoir is a Spanish reservoir located between the provinces of Cuenca and Guadalajara. It is situated in the course of the Guadiela River, a tributary of the Tagus River, also receiving water from the Meridanchel, Garibay, Guadamejud, and Mayor rivers, among others of lesser importance. The dam, located near the Cuenca town that gives it its name, was inaugurated in 1958 with a height of 78.10 m and a water storage capacity of 1,638 hm³ over a surface area of 8,194 ha. Its waters bathe the towns of Buendía, Alcocer, Alcohujate, Villalba del Rey, Las Gaviotas, and Los Cabezos, as well as the Roman ruins of Ercávica located in Cañaveruelas, and submerged beneath them are Santa María de Poyos and Los Baños de La Isabela.
