Going down the stairs of the Collegiata, you will see Piazza delle Erbe on your left. So called because today, as in the past, the market for land products takes place.
Piazza delle Erbe has a triangular shape that closes to the fortress. Recently the floor has been covered with bricks. Thanks to this intervention, the square has become wider, but has lost its original character. In the Piazza delle Erbe you could refresh yourself in the shade of ancient elms and in the center there was a small fountain. The houses around the square stand out for their simple elegance. On the side adjacent to Piazza Duomo are the Twin Towers of the important Ghibelline Salvucci family.
On the left, the square is bordered by the bell tower and the side of the collegiate church, where traces of the Gothic windows that were closed to allow the completion of the New Testament frescoes can still be seen.
