Cafe The Old Courthouse

The Old Courthouse can be found in the charming and welcoming village of Aarlanderveen. The historic building of The Old Courthouse dates back to 1640 and has therefore been a part of Aarlanderveen for almost 400 years. It served for a long time as an inn under the name 'Het Regthuys' and was one of several inns and lodging houses that Aarlanderveen had in the 17th century.

The innkeeper who opened this accommodation as an inn in 1655 was the charming man Heyman Claesz van Schellingerhout, brother of the bailiff Jan Claesz van Schellingerhout. When Heyman passed away in 1658, his wife Merritgen Cornelis dr. Hoogervorst took over the management. The name 'Het Regthuys' was given to the inn due to the meetings of the village council and the presence of the village chest.

Enjoy some rest on our terrace with a cup of coffee and a piece of fresh apple pie from the region. Or take your time for a lovely lunch with the soothing sound of the many birds in the surroundings in the background. Or step inside the cozy and original brown billiard café where the evenings are far too short.
