Arcen Castle

Arcen Castle is a double-moated stately country house in the Dutch Limburg village of Arcen, which has been part of the municipality of Venlo since 1 January 2010.
The current outer bailey stands on the site of a predecessor destroyed in 1646 and was built in 1653 by Marcelis van Gelder, lord of Arcen. His grandson Adolf founded the current main building at the beginning of the 18th century. Above the gate of the outer bailey is a carved stone with the alliance coat of arms of Gelder-van Lützenrode. A stone with the alliance coat of arms of Gelder-van Nesselrode brought over from elsewhere is located on the south side of the square. The castle is made of brick except for the frame of the main entrance, which is made of natural stone. The main building initially had two projecting side wings in the French way, but the one on the north side was demolished after a fire in the 19th century.
