Descripción

The Rollekootse mill
Vases and its windmills
Maarten van Rossum, who had bought the Cannenburgh with its mill and streams in 1542, wanted to build another mill. It was granted to him by Duke William of Guelders. He also wanted to add a reservoir (seaweed). Initially, the local residents had no objections, but when it turned out that there would be two mills (a corn mill and an oil mill) with larger dams, the local residents feared that their land would be flooded. Despite opposition, Van Rossum went about his business. The oil mill apparently only served for a short time, because in the writings that followed it is always mentioned as only one mill until the end of the 17th century. Ervert Janssen is mentioned as the first corn miller (1557 to 1566). In 1640, tenant farmer Poull Peelen gave it a different purpose. It became a fulling mill. The sheets to be filled were brought in from all over the country.
At the end of the 17th century, the mill was converted into a paper mill. In the sales catalogue of the Cannenburger goods (1872) the mill is mentioned as paper mill De Rollekoot, now partly equipped as a sawmill.
Hendrik Pannekoek bought the mill for auction for 3400 guilders. In 1896 the widow Pannekoek sold the laundry/bleaching plant to Evert van Delden. He came from the Dorper mills and was married to Hendrik's daughter Jantje Pannekoek.
In 1905 Van Delden sold the mill to a bleacher from Gouda, Lambertus Jaspers, who had a new building erected there. A main building with a mansard roof, in which the steam engine, which had been bought by Van Delden two years earlier, was placed. The laundry was operated by M. J. Jaspers.

Hydropower was also used for the laundry until 1933, but not anymore. During the war, a new wheel was installed to generate electricity to drive a rasping machine for beetroot. Until 2012, Rentex Interlin Jaspers B.V. was located at this location on the Gortelseweg.
