Castres, nom oficial en francès, o Castras - en occità - és un municipi francès, al departament del Tarn . Els habitants de Castres es diuen els castresos . L'any 2005 tenia 43.300 habitants.Castres és al peu de la Muntanya Negra, a una altitud de 172 metres sobre nivell del mar, a 45 quilòmetres al sud-sud-est d'Albi, i a 72 quilòmetres a l'est de Tolosa de Llenguadoc. Castres és recorreguda de nord a sud pel riu Agot, afluent del Tarn. Castres és travessat de nord a sud per l'Agot. Aquest riu està vestit per velles cases virolades de les quals el pesat passat històric es projecta sobre les seves aigües.
