Geuzentoren Muziekbos - the binoculars

Hidden between the tall trees you will find the Geuzentoren, a round tower built in iron sandstone, on one of the highest peaks of the music forest. In 1864, builder M. Scribe was probably carried away by the erection of bizarre outbuildings. He regularly climbed his tower to enjoy the surrounding landscape. The trees were not as tall then as they are now. This is how the binoculars came into being in the vernacular.

At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, artists such as Velerius De Saedeleer and Herman Teirlinck came over to enjoy nature. In 1888, Omer Wattez and his friend the poet Pol De Mont, after an inspiring walk on the tower, were admiring the landscape when Pol De Mont exclaimed: 'But these are the Flemish Ardennes'. Since then, that has been the pet name of this pearl of the region.
