The Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, appeals to many people. You can walk the way to Santiago from all corners of Europe, and today this world-famous hiking trail attracts both religious and non-religious hikers. A part of this route also runs through Sluis. Originally, the route began at "Het Zoute Vestje" (in the vicinity of Hoogstraat 35), where the harbor was located. Pilgrims from overseas arrived here to continue their journey over Damme and Bruges. Nowadays, you can start the Via Brugensis (route via Damme and Bruges) from our Groote Markt. Specifically for you, we have marked the 'West Zeeuws-Vlaamse Camino' from Sluis to Damme.
