You will walk through the Dender Valley the entire time, mostly following the GR 5A. The hike immediately begins with a celebration in the ambiance of the lush Baroque of the abbey church in Ninove. After leaving the populated area, you walk for kilometers through greenery, only interrupted by cozy villages with inviting names like Aspelare, Voorde, and Zandbergen. There you will reach the Dender, once a river with a slightly controversial reputation due to occasional 'environmental disasters', but the many anglers and leisure boats prove that better times have arrived. After that, you are drawn to the 'mountains': the Bosberg and the Oudenberg. The only place where you need to exercise some caution is when descending from the wall of Geraardsbergen when it rains.
