At the lowest point of the valley, the Old Mombeek flows parallel to the Mombeek. Both streams have naturally formed and have eroded the landscape for centuries. Through a constant interaction of water drainage and flooding, a valley has eventually emerged. The wet character of this valley has historically made it difficult to access. Houses could not be built there, and modern agriculture also left the valley as it was. Today, it is a blue-green oasis in the fertile Haspengouw agricultural and pasture landscape.
