Tielt-Winge Vlooyberg Tower

Beautiful junction walk. We parked the car on the spacious parking lot in Oude Pastoriestraat. Actually, we thought of walking the trail counterclockwise so that we could climb the highlight, the Vlooybergtoren, at the end. Fate decided differently and immediately directed us towards the tower. In hindsight, that was not a bad move. Because it is a challenging walk. We set off in the morning, so there aren't too many people wanting to climb the tower.

About the tower, toerismevlaamsbrabant.be writes the following;

* Known from the series 'Callboys'

* The floating staircase is made of stainless Corten steel, with a color referring to the iron sandstone heritage.

* The Vlooybergtoren is over 20 m long and 11 m high.

* The lookout terrace is located at one of the highest points, about 80 m, of the Hageland.

* On a clear day, you can see the cooling towers of Electrabel in Vilvoorde to the west and the shafts of the Limburg coal mines to the east from the tower.

* You can reach the staircase via the coordinates 50° 55′ 36.14″ N 4° 54′ 59.32″ E.

The beautiful nature reserve "Walenbos" is also prominently featured. The GR enthusiast will find satisfaction on the various sections of the "GR 512 Brabantse Heuvelroute"

The walk can certainly be called very varied. It is hilly, flat, has paved roads, muddy paths, beautiful panoramas, forests, fields, buildings, ... in short, the walker has no time to get bored.
