The Hornisgrinde is a mountain range located in the northern part of the Black Forest. The highest point of this ridge is situated a few kilometers to the south (1164 meters above sea level), while the northern part of this mountain ridge has a summit at 1130 meters above sea level. The northern part of this ridge is easily recognizable by the impressive SWR television tower. Access to the summit may sometimes be closed by a barrier. In case of frost, be aware of ice falling from the television tower! The Hornisgrinde North is often climbed in combination with Unterstmatt or from Sasbachwalden. In both cases, you will then cross a bridge of nearly 960 meters of elevation from the Rhine valley.
