Alfred Toepfer bridge

The inhabitants of the Eifel and the Ardennes have long dealt with arbitrary border demarcations, but they always found their way to each other. In 1958, Naturpark Südeifel was established. Because the nature area on both sides of the border shares many common features, it was decided to preserve and maintain this landscape with its unique beauty. At that moment, the German-Luxembourg nature park was born. It was founded in Vianden on May 4, 1963.

The connection between the countries is visible through the seven cross-border walking bridges over the rivers Sauer and Our. The Alfred-Toepfer bridge is one of those walking bridges. The namesake was the Hamburg entrepreneur Alfred Toepfer (†1993). He was considered the founder of the nature parks in Germany in 1954. To protect the beautiful landscapes, Germany now has over 100 nature parks.
