The cityscape of Cottbus is also characterized by small and large towers. Two of them can be climbed. Others also make attractive photo motifs. Just a few steps from the starting point (CottbusService) is the ensemble of the monastery church with monastery square. Relax on the monastery square with its shade-giving trees or let the contemplative atmosphere of the monastery church, also known as the Wendish Church, affect you. The largest hall church in Lower Lusatia, the Oberkirche St. Nikolai, is visible from afar. Those who dare to climb stairs and narrow steps will be rewarded with a panoramic view over the roofs of the city. Smaller, but no less significant for Cottbuss history, was the Münzturm, where the Cottbuser Taler was once minted. You can reach the Münzturm via Münzstraße, it is part of the city wall. Leave the Münzturm behind and cross the tram tracks on Sandower Straße. At the level of the Tuchmacherbrunnen, the easy and short ascent to Schlossberg begins just behind the gate. The Gerichtsturm proclaims the time far and wide, in the neighboring former castle justice is now served. Leave Schlossberg via its driveway and reach the street Am Spreeufer on the left via the idyllic Gerichtsplatz. Follow the street over Neustädter and Brandenburger Platz to Spremberger Turm. More than 100 steps lead to the Dicker, the Cottbus landmark. After the climb, the cafes and restaurants in the Cottbus Old Town invite you to feast. The Cottbus Baumkuchen is equally suitable for enjoying on site or as a souvenir of Cottbus and the Cottbus towers. And what is there to discover along the way or with small detours?Monastery church with church tower and Sorbian wall paintings Oberkirche St. Nikolai with walkable church tower* Wendish Museum in Mühlenstraße historical Cottbus Old Town* with Altmarkt, Apothekenmuseum, and citizen houses historical city wall with Münzturm and adjacent playground* in Puschkinpromenade Tuchmacherbrunnen Gerichtsberg with old castle and Gerichtsturm Mühleninsel with tanneries, art museum, E-Werk, and Wilhelmsmühle Playground* in Goethepark Spremberger Turm with viewing platform*Spremberger Straße with Cottbus Baumkuchen manufactory* Postkutscherdenkmal* and Lindepforte in the historical city wall Our special tips for families are marked with an asterisk*.The tour leads over asphalt and paved paths.Start/Finish: CottbusService/Stadthalle CottbusLength of the tour: approx. 2 kmTrail markings: partly tourist information signsArrival and departure from Cottbus:Public transport: with RE 2 from Berlin or with RB 65 from Zittau/Görlitz to Hauptbahnhof CottbusCar: from Spreewald-Dreieck A15 to exits Cottbus-West and Cottbus-Süd
