Cubelles made the news in the summer of 2025 due to a disaster
Two people disappeared after sudden flooding caused by heavy rainfall. The victims were swept away in Cubelles by the flooded river Foix.
According to the Spanish meteorological agency Aemet, more than 100 millimeters of rain fell in some places in Catalonia in just a few hours.
The extreme weather conditions were due to a DANA, or an isolated depression at high altitude that brings a lot of energy and moisture. This not only leads to a drop in temperatures but also increases the chances of thunderstorms with strong gusts of wind and heavy downpours.
