The Musée de Vauluisant (or Musée de la bonneterie) is a museum in Troyes dedicated to 16th-century Trojan art and hosiery . It is housed in the listed Hôtel de Vauluisant.
The Hôtel de Vauluisant has been listed as a monument since 21 December 19041. It stands on the site of a building that belonged to the Notre-Dame de Vauluisant Abbey in the 12th century. The building burned down in the fire of 1524 and Antoine Hennequin, the collector of the "tailles", was responsible for the construction of the current building.
Renovated in 1863 by the Cercle Troyen, it was acquired in 1932 by the city council , which turned it into a branch of the Musée Saint-Loup and placed it under the decorative arts. It was given its current name in 1959. The interior was renovated between 1950 and 1953, and the parts listed as monuments between 1954 and 1957.
The entrance is through a monumental portico , a semicircular arch with an omega-shaped cornice, which opens onto a courtyard with a Renaissance facade framed by two towers. The building is accessed via a large horseshoe-shaped staircase.
On the first floor there is a large 16th century hall with numerous beamed ceilings, walls in Champagne gluework and a room dedicated to the art of stained glass. There is also a large fireplace and a coat of arms of the Hennequin family. On the second floor there is a group of paintings from the Aube collections , as well as parts of houses in Troyes. In the wing facing the street there is a collection of machines used in the hosiery industry in the Aube.
