Do you know the strange story of Alan Turing that still inspires treasure hunts?
Turing had his savings converted into silver and buried it in a wood in 1940, fearing a German invasion, but the exact wood is not known for certain. In 1940, Turing bought two large silver bars (about 90 kg in total) and buried them in a small wood near Bletchley Park to protect his savings if Germany invaded Britain. He created coded directions to the location, but never recovered the silver bars after the war, despite several attempts with a metal detector. Sources consistently refer to “woods near Bletchley Park” or “a small wood nearby”.
