The Sint Servaas Bridge is a 13th century stone arch bridge over the river Maas. The bridge suffered severe damage during World War II. On May 10, 1940, the steel section on the Wyck side was blown up on the orders of the Dutch military leadership. However, the advance of the German army was hardly delayed by this. When the German army retreated in 1944, the bridge sustained most of its damage. On September 13, the day of the liberation of Wyck and just one day before the liberation of Maastricht itself, the Germans partially blew up the bridge.
