Elspeet is located about ten kilometers south of Nunspeet, to which it also belongs. Together, they are part of the Dutch province of Gelderland. The tourist village, with more than 4000 inhabitants, is situated in an agricultural enclave, surrounded by forests and heathlands.
The village is still known for being very religious. In the municipal council elections on March 7, 2006, the SGP received 63.2% of the votes. Over 90% of the votes were cast for a Christian party.
