In Montferland, many sometimes large erratic boulders have been found. These came from Scandinavia during the penultimate ice age (Saalien, approximately 238,000 – 126,000,000 years ago) carried by glacial ice. In Stokkum, a large stone was excavated (Berghse Kei) which can now be seen at the entrance of the castle in ’s-Heerenberg; in Hoch-Elten there is a ‘Findling’, and there is also one displayed on the grounds of ’t Peeske near Beek.
The stone, which is located here at the T-junction, appears to have been moved to mark this junction.
