The Lürken Castle, also known as Castle Lurich or Lürkener Castle, was a water castle in the valley of the Merzbach, located in the center of the now-excavated settlement of Lürken, a district of Eschweiler.
The castle Lürken was first mentioned in documentary evidence in 1188 as "castrum Lureke." The occasion for this was its purchase for the Cologne Archdiocese by Archbishop Philipp of Heinsberg. In the following years, the site was loaned to the Jülicher Counts. Later, Lürken became part of the Lordship of Laurenzberg, whose bailiwick was granted to the Lords of Randerath. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the feudal lordship over Lürken and its castle seemingly rested in the hands of the family von Kinzweiler.
