Insulator Museum

The Insulator Museum in Lohr am Main showcases a large part of the private insulator collection of Lothar Vormwald and was opened on June 20, 2004, as the third museum of the Unterfranken city. It is considered the only one of its kind in Germany.

The private collection, which the trained high-voltage electrician built with the help of his wife Daniele Vormwald, includes more than 600 insulators from over 40 countries. It displays the different sizes and designs of insulators as well as their historical development. The smallest insulators in the collection come from telecommunication lines and are no larger than a thimble, while the largest exhibit is a three-part insulator string from a 380 kV high-voltage line, measuring over 3 m in length and weighing 150 kg.
