Start at the Information Point
Past the postal distance column (1738), the imperial post office (1896), and the Joachim Gottschalk monument, the tour goes via Altnau to Saßleben. Next stop: Saßleben. The old forge was built around 1840 as a former estate blacksmith shop in neo-Gothic brick architecture. It is privately owned today. The church was built around the 15th century, with the reconstruction with a wooden bell frame taking place in 1775. The park was built in the second half of the 18th century with ponds, boat dock, island pavilion, and Sphinx. The four caryatids symbolize the four seasons and stand on the Literature Island, also known as Love Island in popular jargon. Then remains of a castle rampart dating back to the Slavic period are visible along the way. Next stop: Kalkwitz. The church was built in the 15th century, with murals and fieldstone from that time. Dubrau Viewpoint. The Dubrau Heights offer a good view over large parts of Lower Lusatia, the Spreewald, the Bischdorfer Lake, and even into the Calau Switzerland. Through Koßwig to Reuden. The manor chapel is a unique, baroque building in the region and was inaugurated around 1729. From spring to autumn, the support association organizes a variety of cultural events here such as concerts or exhibitions. Bolschwitz to Gahlen. The church was originally built as a fortified church in the 13th century. In the south wall, there is a dark stone with a relief-like carved face, possibly a Slavic idol. From Plieskendorf to Werchow. The Werchow Legend Trail with twelve boulders full of spooky and romantic legends leads to the Goldspring. The Goldspring is the largest and most water-rich natural spring in Lower Lusatia and is located directly on the edge of the Calau Switzerland. From here, the path to the lookout tower "Luckaitztaler Ziegelturm" is also signposted. Back over the Silberberg to Calau. Coming from Silberberg towards Calau, the silhouette of the city greets you. Upon arrival in Calau, the Napoleon Oak greets you, a pedunculate oak with a trunk circumference of about 25 meters and an estimated age of about 350 years. The name of the oak dates back to Napoleon's passage on July 21, 1813, when he changed his horses in Calau on his way to Bautzen and is said to have rested in the shade of the oak.
