The best start for this versatile hiking trail is the Mühlrather Hof in Schwalmtal. From here, you walk along smaller forests to the Laarer Brook. It winds through the wetlands, past fields and meadows, to Laarer Lake. A few minutes later, hikers reach the Swalm, which is 45 kilometers long from its source at Tüschenbroich to its mouth at the Maas.
