If you want to use the crank ferry over the Lippe, you can drive left along the Lippe behind Dorsten (signposting to the Lippe ferry). The original tour without a ferry goes over the Lippe bridge and then continues on the right side! Have fun!

Information on the Lippe:  

Originally, the Lippe was characterized by meanders and oxbow lakes as well as sand and gravel banks. The river was constantly in motion. Floods altered its appearance and course. The natural landscape of the floodplain consisted of floodplain and marsh forests, reed beds, tall herb communities, and swampy and grassy areas – a typical lowland river.

However, even the Romans used the Lippe course as a transport route. Since the late Middle Ages, the river has been regulated and straightened, its banks reinforced and dyked. As a result, the Lippe has cut unusually deep into the landscape, as its natural development possibility in width has been taken away.
