Palthehuis Oldenzaal

The Palthe House in Oldenzaal is the home of the Palthe family. Three generations of Palthe lived there, now the Palthe House is a museum as if you step into a time machine. The history is almost palpable in the house. You will also find the city collection of Oldenzaal.

In the 18th century, Johannes Palthe, a preacher and large landowner, bought the former city farm, which had been converted into a stately house in the 17th century. Over the centuries, the family held important positions in Oldenzaal, such as judge, pastor and mayor. Three generations of Palthe lived in the Palthe House, until Johannes Palthe's granddaughter, Gulia Palthe, died in 1928 and the house became a museum.

Visiting the Palthe Huis is like stepping into a time machine. In the historic house you can experience how the Palthe family must have lived in the 18th century. The history is almost palpable in the house. Nowhere else in Twente has a house been preserved in such an original state. The Palthehuis is therefore a unique museum!
