Fountain of Tears - Bom Jesus - Braga

This fountain was also called a "boulder" because it had no inscriptions or figures on it.

According to Father Martinho da Silva, in the Manual do Romeiro (5th ed., Paris, p. 103), it was the primitive fountains where the source of the five wounds is currently located.

We attribute the designation "Tears" to the place next to the chapel of the same name . It is a simple font, without mythological symbols and without motifs or couplets.

The Fountain of Tears may refer to the sorrow and mourning surrounding the crucifixion of Christ , and serves as a place of contemplation for visitors. It is one of many elements that contribute to the profound spiritual experience the sanctuary offers.
