Castle de Potter d'Indoye

The Château de Potter d'Indoye is a castle in the Belgian municipality of Melle.On the site there is a castle, a gatehouse, a castle farm and a gloriëtte.

An entry from 1435 refers to the "Hof ter Meers", located near the Scheldt and the Ghent-Brussels road, possibly an old farm with farmlands. A map from 1572 mentions the place as ''toy'' or ''house of plaisance''. The de Potter family acquired this estate in 1743. The castle, demolished at the end of the 19th century, probably dates from the beginning of the 17th century and was replaced in 1897 by the current castle with neo-Gothic features. Furthermore, the 10-hectare castle park contains a number of outbuildings, moats and ponds. The old castle or former country estate was a moated castle surrounded by a moat, with a courtyard on the south side and the entrance gate, to the north a large courtyard surrounded by wide moats. The water features on the north side were largely preserved. To the east of the main road was a rectangular plot, so-called "De Bareere" with a tavern from the beginning of the 18th century, the "Barierhuys" which served as a widow's house until 1794 and was purchased by the Potter in 1902. The inn included a forge and toll gate, which, like the inn, no longer exist.
