Abbey bike route

Cycling along abbeys with a recognized abbey or Trappist beer.

The Abbey Bicycle Route is a long-distance cycling route of more than 1600 km through Belgium. The route connects a total of 31 Belgian abbeys that have one common characteristic: each abbey has/had a recognized label of an abbey or Trappist beer. On this sustainable cycling trip, you will discover the most beautiful regions of our country. Along the way, the abbeys represent an encounter with cultural-historical heritage and the rich Belgian beer culture.

The route is completely outlined in Flanders and partially in Wallonia based on the cycling junction network. Furthermore, the route uses the RAVEL network, sections of the Rando-Velo network, and some self-drawn sections over mainly quiet roads.

Based on 14 sections, you can cycle the entire route in one go, but of course, you can also choose to select a few sections. Officially, it starts in Antwerp at the Central Station, but starting elsewhere is not a problem. Each stage location is accessible by train, with the exception of the abbeys of Chimay and Orval.
