Mechelen has a new walking route: Round Mechelen-Hombeeks Plateau. This route takes you from the historic center to the villages of Hombeek, Leest, and Heffen. The first highlight is the Vrijbroekpark on the edge of the city, featuring a beautiful rose garden and kilometers of walking paths. Along the 'put van Hombeek', as the Eglegemvijver is commonly known, you walk to the Hombeeks Plateau, where the Zenne winds its way through the green, quiet landscape. Be sure to keep an eye out for any bluethroats, reed warblers, or small reed buntings in the reed beds along the bank.
