At this viewpoint, it is worth taking a moment to pause and simply enjoy. The old town of Gordes lies before us on one of the slopes of the plateau du Vaucluse. It overlooks the plain of the Calavon with the Luberon in the distance. Gordes is one of the literal and figurative highlights of the Luberon. Quite a few stars have a vacation home here.
The houses made of natural stone wind around the rock on which a large church and an impressive fortress are built. It is no surprise that Gordes is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France. Yet, from this viewpoint.
It is worthwhile to wander a bit up and down the cobbled alleys between the mansions. On the left and right, we discover artistic portals, old beams, and colorful plasterwork, as well as a terrace to enjoy a little longer.
In the center of the village, we can visit the fortress that houses the town hall and a museum of Pol Mara, a modern Flemish painter.
We are now driving back uphill into the village to the fortress in the center.
