Challenging hike for the experienced hiker from Alpbach to Hochstrickl (1,787m) and Gratlspitze (1,893m).
The circular hike to Gratlspitz takes you past abandoned mines that you can explore on your own.
Ancient finds prove that valuable ore was mined in Alpbach long before Christ. In the early 1500s, silver and copper were discovered in Gratlspitz, Schatzberg, and Luegergraben. Between 1465 and 1760, gold was added to the discoveries. When the veins began to die out at the end of the 20th century, the mines were closed. The mine openings on Gratlspitz remain an attraction. The sun still catches a glimpse of dazzling shine on the old warehouses.
Take a break at the Holzalm with its spectacular view and local cuisine.
