Today, the goal was to walk through the Ternaaien tunnel as part of a circular walk. We walked a lot in this area and looked at the entrance/exit a few times, but walking through the tunnel hadn't happened yet. In fact, we're surprised you're still allowed to walk through the tunnel. It's a pretty exciting adventure. Make no mistake, the tunnel is 1.5 km long and it's dark! Don't forget a headlamp, flashlight, and spare batteries!

We park the car near the bridge over the canal and walk through varied nature with a number of caves along the way in a wide arch to Eben-Emael. Once there, we walk through the parking lot to the tunnel entrance.

The tunnel actually consists of two tunnels. You enter the tunnel on the right, but after 1.5 km you exit through the tunnel on the left. Along the way, there are plenty of options to switch between the right and left tunnel. The surface is flat and easy to walk on. Almost at the beginning, we chose to go through the tunnel on the left.
