Aubel - Val Dieu

This walk through the wonderful land of Herve begins in the square in front of the Sint-Hubertus Church in Aubel. Cross over Rue de la Station (not Gare!) to Ravel Ligne 38. Turn right and follow this old railway embankment for nearly 2 kilometers. Then follow the red-and-white plaques of the balade de la Berwinne. Pay close attention, as nowadays, like so often, an owner (here a farmer) has blocked part of the path. No problem. At the fork just before you would cross the Berwinne, turn sharply to the right and about 200 meters further at the fork turn left onto the paved road. Just before the river, turn right again. Shortly after Macra you can turn left and follow the blue-white-blue signs of the balade du Chemin du Diable to the road to the Abbey of Val Dieu. Follow the path parallel to the road. After visiting the abbey, you return about 50 meters and take a narrow path to the left after the traditional cow gate. Climb to the highest point, the viewpoint Knuppelstok (WO2 memorial). Go from gate to gate. Now comes a final climb to the Chapelle Ste.-Anne. For those who don't have a hiking GPS, it will be a bit more difficult now. Pay close attention to the signs with the rules of conduct for hikers. They often indicate where to turn between the houses. Via the balade de la Bel (red diamond on a white background), you will suddenly find yourself in the middle of Aubel after about 10 more gates.
There are about 3 difficult climbs on this walk, but the reward is a beautiful landscape every time.
