Obersulzbürg Castle Ruins

The ruins of Obersulzbürg Castle, also known as Obersulzbürg Castle, are the remains of a hilltop castle on a mountain plateau 567 m above sea level in Sulzbürg, above the district of Sulzbürg in the municipality of Mühlhausen in the Neumarkt district of Upper Palatinate in Bavaria.

The castle was built in the 13th century by the lords of Sulzbürg, who were ministerials of the Holy Roman Empire and later called themselves Wolfstein after the Wolfstein Castle, and was part of the Sulzbürg-Pyrbaum lordship. In the 16th century, the castle was expanded in a palace-like manner, destroyed in 1634, and rebuilt.
