Sender Hoyerswerda/Zeißig

The transmitter Hoyerswerda/Zeißig is a broadcasting facility in northern Upper Lusatia in Saxony, currently used for the dissemination of radio programs and for signal transmission in the mobile network. It is located in the Hoyerswerda district of Zeißig and was established as a transmission site Schwarze Pumpe or transmitter Groß Zeißig from 1959 to 1961 for the Deutsche Post in the former GDR. 34 years later, a multi-year renovation of the facility began by the Deutsche Bundespost Telekom, now Deutsche Telekom. The current owner is the Deutsche Funkturm.
From 1959 to 1961, the construction of a 105-meter high radiator in the form of a steel lattice mast for the transmission facility took place, whose designation changed several times, from transmitter or transmission site Schwarze Pumpe to Groß Zeißig and Zeißig, and ultimately to the present - transmitter Hoyerswerda/Zeißig or also transmitter Hoyerswerda. The transmission mast was used for broadcasting the medium wave program Radio DDR, partly produced in Lower Sorbian, at 746 kHz and the Berlin radio on the medium wave frequency 999 kHz with a transmission power of 5 kW and later 20 kW. Additionally, Radio DDR II was added on FM 100.4 MHz.
